Additional diagnostic components

These can be added to your assessment when more information would be helpful. They allow clinicians to build a clearer understanding of your needs and may provide supporting evidence for treatment, educational support, or formal reports.

Cognitive Assessment

What is a cognitive assessment?

A cognitive assessment helps us understand how someone thinks, learns, and processes information. It looks at areas such as memory, problem-solving, reasoning, language, and attention.

Rather than measuring intelligence alone, it helps build a picture of a person’s cognitive strengths and any areas where they may need additional support.

Why might this be added to your assessment?

A cognitive assessment may be recommended when we need a deeper understanding of how someone learns or processes information. This can help to:

  • Identify learning differences or intellectual disability

  • Understand how cognitive skills may be affecting school, work, or daily life

  • Provide evidence for educational supports or adjustments

  • Inform recommendations for support going forward

This information helps ensure that recommendations are tailored to the individual’s needs.

Additional History

What is additional history?

Additional history involves gathering more detailed information about a person’s development and life experiences. This may include early childhood development, school experiences, family background, and current challenges.

This information can come from parents, carers, teachers, or the individual themselves.

Why might this be needed?

Sometimes we need a fuller understanding of a person’s experiences to make accurate clinical decisions. Additional history can help us to:

  • Understand how difficulties have developed over time

  • Identify patterns across different settings such as home, school, or work

  • Ensure the assessment considers the person’s full developmental history

This helps us provide a thorough and person-centred assessment.

Full Assessment Report

What is a full report?

A full assessment report is a detailed written summary of the assessment, including the information gathered, the results of any assessments completed, and the clinician’s conclusions and recommendations.

Why might you need a full report?

A full report may be required in situations where formal documentation is needed, such as:

  • Accessing ADHD medication through a medical professional (this only applies to ADHD assessments)

  • Providing documentation for schools, colleges, or universities

  • Supporting applications for benefits or services

  • Requesting reasonable adjustments at work or in education

The report helps ensure that other professionals and organisations clearly understand the assessment outcome and any recommended supports.

Terms & Conditions

Evolve Ireland Terms and Conditions for Assessments

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing our services at Evolve Psychology Services Ltd, you agree to comply with these Terms and Conditions. These may be updated periodically, and continued use of our services implies acceptance of any changes.

2. Scope of Services

We provide clinic based Neurodevelopmental Assessments for Children, Young people and Adults. We receive referrals privately and from governmental bodies, as well as under recognised pathways such as Assessment of Need (AON). Typically, assessments are requested to explore presence of a range of neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism and/or ADHD, motor difficulties, speech and language conditions, developmental delay and intellectual disability, Assessment services may be delivered by Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Evolve does not currently provide therapeutic interventions, medication or titration services. Services may be delivered in person, via telephone or online through our secure telehealth platform (subject to inclusion criteria).

Our services are designed to deliver high quality assessments, compliant with relevant national and international guidance. Our aim at Evolve is always to provide answers for clients and families seeking assessments. On occasions, our team will advise that additional components of an assessment may be required to fully understand a specific presentation. For governmentally funded assessments, this may require additional approvals which will delay our usual assessment timelines. For private assessments, this would typically incur an extra charge, however, this will be discussed in full, with your assigned lead clinician to ensure you are fully informed or the benefits and implications of any decision. Additional sessions require prior payment before being booked.

In a small number of assessments, we are unable to conclude a diagnosis or simply, our assessment components have not been able to detect sufficient evidence across the range of areas we look at, to be able to confidently diagnose a specific condition. We would refer to this as “inconclusive” or a ‘No Diagnosis’. This is not in any way intended to invalidate any of the feelings, experiences or challenges you or your family member have described. It also does not mean that you as the client or your family member definitively do not have a specific condition, but it does mean that potentially other factors are influencing the ability to confidently diagnose a condition. For autism and ADHD assessments, this could be a co-occurring intellectual disability, a language or speech disorder, evidence of an additional neuro-divergence not currently being assessed or the effects of trauma or abuse. In all inconclusive assessments or no diagnosis outcomes, the process, options and signposting will be fully explained and discussed at the feedback appointment.

3. Client and Family Responsibilities

Clients and families are required to provide accurate and complete personal, medical, educational and where applicable, insurance, information when requested. Clients are responsible for informing the assessment team of any changes as and when they arise. Withholding information, previous assessment documents or outcomes, whether or not it is felt they are relevant, may lead to delays or difficulties in concluding the assessment. In some cases, this can also invalidate any assessments you may have with us, particularly if a standardised assessment tool has been used in a prior assessment.

Clients should attend all scheduled appointments on time. Evolve operates a DNA and cancellation policy (please refer to point 4) to ensure our appointment slots can be used effectively and waiting times kept minimal.

Evolve will not tolerate disrespectful behaviour of any kind towards any team member, other service user, contractor or visitor. Clients or visitors who exhibit inappropriate behaviour will be informed in writing and services may, at the discretion of management, be denied access. Clients or family members of clients referred from governmental bodies, whose behaviour falls below that expected by Evolve, will be reported to the referring service which may result in further action being taken. Evolve has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse of any kind and will report any occurrences to the relevant authorities and Gardai.

4. Fees and Payment for Private assessments

Payment is required in advance for self-funded clients, via our secure online payment platform. Cash and cheques are not accepted.

Where we have direct billing with an insurance provider, insured clients must provide a valid policy number and pre-authorisation code. Evolve will need to gain approval from the relevant insurance provider before an assessment can be undertaken. Payment remains the responsibility of the client should the insurer decide at a later date that the services are not covered. If an insurer does not cover the full cost, the client is responsible for any outstanding balance, deductible or co-pay, which must be paid upfront. In most insured cases, you will be required to pay for your assessment and then claim back from your insurer. Evolve cannot be held responsible for any services decline or not covered by your insurer.
Occasionally, assessment teams may require additional information, in the form of additional assessment component(s) in order to conclude an assessment. There will be an additional charge for these components. Clients and families are free to opt out of additional assessment components, however, in this case, conclusion of an assessment and assignment of a diagnosis may not be possible.

5. Cancellations Private Assessment Cancellations

As parents, busy people and family carers, we at Evolve understand sometimes appointments need to be re-scheduled and occasionally this can be at short notice. We ask that wherever possible, 72 hours’ notice is given for a cancellation as this allows us to offer the original appointment to another client or family and keeps our waiting times low for everyone.

Cancellations made between 24 and 48 hours before the appointment will incur a 50% session cancellation fee.
Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment or missed appointments will incur a 100% session fee.

We will always offer the next available, suitable appointment, where a cancellation has been necessary, however, due to demand for appointments, this may be 4-6 weeks in the future. In these cases, our expected timelines for assessment completion will also be adjusted to reflect the cancellation and rebooking.
In exceptional circumstances, Evolve, reserves the right to reschedule appointments due to unforeseen circumstances, with reasonable notice provided. We will always communicate to clients as soon as possible and offer the next available appointment session.

Cancellation of AON Assessment Appointments

If you have been referred to us under the AON pathway for an assessment and you do not attend an appointment, we are required to notify the HSE of your non-attendance. Repeated non-attendance, failure to communicate with Evolve and short notice cancellations may result in your case being passed back to the HSE, without conclusion of the assessment process.

If you cancel by giving us notice, please note, the next available appointment may be 4-6 weeks away. This will significantly delay your completion of your assessment process, any diagnosis and outcome reports, therefore we would politely ask you make all attempts to attend your appointments

6. Refunds

We would hope that you are satisfied with your assessment purchase from Evolve, however we understand that on occasions we may need to process a refund where the chosen services cannot be carried out. We aim to be clear and fair, while also reflecting the nature of the professional services and digital products we provide.

Your Right to Cancel or be Refunded

Under EU consumer law, you normally have a 14-day cooling-off period for services purchased online.

Once we have received your signed consent form, we will usually begin processing your file immediately and arranging for the relevant preliminary information, including some standardised online assessment links (where applicable) to be sent to you. This would mean that a full refund would not be possible under any circumstances, as work on your referral has commenced.

These modules are instant-access digital products

Evolve Skills & Research Academy modules are provided as instant-access digital content. Once access to a module has been granted:
• The cooling-off period no longer applies
• Refunds are not available
